Flag of Iraq

This flag of Iraq, though not yet officially adopted, is a modified version of one introduced on January 14, 1991. Recently, what proved to be a controversial newer version, first displayed in April of 2004, was quickly abandoned due to its colors and overall design.

The above flag displays the Arab Liberation colors of red, green, black and white. The red is said to represent courage, the white symbolizes generosity, black recalls the many triumphs of Islam, and green is symbolic of that religion.

The centered phrase in green Arabic script reads.... ALLAHU AKBAR (God is Great).
